Senior Statistician (Posted 5-29-2015)

Professional Data Analysts, Inc. (PDA) is an independent evaluation and statistical consulting firm specializing in the fields of public health and the behavioral and medical sciences. We are recognized as a national expert in evaluating state-level tobacco control programs. We are a small firm with approximately 20 staff members and are located in St. Anthony Main adjacent to downtown Minneapolis.

Job description

PDA is currently seeking a Senior Statistician to work on both evaluation and statistical projects. Recent projects at PDA relevant to this position include:

  • Outcome study evaluating a statewide tobacco control program: create sampling plan, conduct sampling, weight survey data, conduct descriptive analyses, use logistic regression to model quit success, and interpret results for a presentation and report.
  • County corrections department risk assessment instruments: literature review, norm an instrument to a specific population using recidivism data, create a shortened form of instrument for screening, present results to client.
  • Investigate usability of a non-probability web panel for use in a media evaluation: propensity score analysis, survey weighting.
The successful candidate should possess a master’s degree in statistics or a related discipline. This candidate will work on a team with other PDA analysts and statisticians. Strong quantitative, writing, and communication skills are essential. This is a full-time position (32 to 40 hours per week).

Specific responsibilities

  • Conduct a wide variety of analyses using both primary and secondary data
  • Collaborate with principal investigators in developing sampling strategies and study designs
  • Prepare methods sections of research and evaluation reports
  • Explain methods and findings to non-technical and technical research team members and clients
  • Provide ad hoc statistical and data management support to projects

Qualifications

  • Master’s in statistics, biostatistics, or related discipline
  • 4+ years of experience conducting analyses outside of graduate school
  • Experience in statistical programming using SPSS, R, SAS, or Stata
  • Ability to perform statistical tests, data analysis, & modeling
  • Ability to interpret and communicate statistical results to a variety of audiences
  • Leadership, project management, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.

Desired Skills

  • Background in public health or health field
  • Experience with program evaluation projects
  • Technical expertise and knowledge of database structure, SQL, and programming
  • Published in peer-reviewed journal or experience presenting at conferences
