Research Business Manager

Use your business development and project management skills to support our research and evaluation projects. As the Research Business Manager, you’ll be a critical part of our growth.

We’re hiring a Research Business Manager to support our research and evaluation work on public health initiatives. As the Research Business Manager, you’ll build processes and structure for project budgeting, contract renewals, profitability, and business development. You’ll work with Project Managers to ensure projects stay on track and on budget. You’ll also use your superior communication and organizational skills to support capacity planning, invoicing, and project management. This is an opportunity to flex your analytical AND creative muscles as you help to shape our growth strategy! In short, you will help to maximize our impact. You’ll work directly with the CEO and Directors, while reporting to the Director of Operations and HR.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Build templates for forecasting, capacity planning, and development of project budgets
  • Co-develop budgets for each division with division directors
  • Create and execute a business development roadmap that aligns with our values
  • Track staff hours against budgets and work with Project Managers to make adjustments when needed
  • Communicate with clients on contracts, amendments, and invoices
  • Use your communication skills to keep everyone in the loop and make sure resources and time are well allocated and projects are staffed appropriately
  • Create processes to improve efficiency, eliminate redundancy, and build smooth workflows
  • Oversee all legal and data use agreements
  • Work with the Senior Accounting Manager to deliver useful financial reports
  • Dive in wherever necessary; in a small business no one is above or below any tasks

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of experience including budgeting, forecasting, project management, capacity planning, business development, process development, and/or other relevant tasks
  • Microsoft Excel mastery
  • Financial reporting experience
  • Experience building business development strategies
  • Ability to independently manage your time, prioritize competing demands, and work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including writing in a concise and clear manner for a variety of audiences
  • Interpersonal and facilitation skills
  • Understand and demonstrate our core values including Excelling Together (teamwork) and Making an Impact
  • Experience or interest in research, evaluation, and/or public health is preferred
